Charleston Homes For Sale : Will Government Shutdown Effect Real Estate?
Most of the federal government programs that the real estate market relies on will continue to operate with minimal disturbance. But, there will be some to halt operations or experience service delays. Here are the key takeaways:
1. Those with mortgage loans in process could experience delays as Internal Revenue Service (IRS) transcripts may not be able to be pulled in a timely manner, which are a required part of the mortgage underwriting process.
2. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) will continue to operate the single-family program. However, the FHA will NOT make any new commitments for multi-family lending.
3. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) will continue operations. Changes to NFIP took effect as scheduled today. For more on those changes, click here.
