Charleston SC Real Estate Blog: Charleston Named Top Tourist Destination in the United States
The 2011 Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Award for Top Tourist Destination City in the United States goes to Charleston South Carolina. This Year Charleston topped San Francisco for the #1 tourist destination in America after being the number two each of the past three years.
Charleston South Carolina has always had a reputation for being one of the friendliest towns in America. Perhaps the recent growth of top quality hotels, fine dining and the addition of Carnival Cruise Line were enough for the “Holy City” to get to the top.
The Readers' Choice Awards, which will be featured in the November issue (hitting newsstands Oct. 25), are based on a survey of over 27,000 readers. Charleston first showed up on the list of Top U.S. Destinations in 1993 with a sixth-place ranking, and the city placed in the top five for 14 consecutive years from 1997 to 2010.
